Goals:
Main Goal:
Familiarization of students with parasites and parasitic diseases (worms, protozoa, arthropods and fungi) and their diagnosis methods
Specific Goals:
At the end of this course, students are required to:
A) Express the generalities and common definitions in parasitology.
B) Express and illustrate the scientific name and shape of parasites with an emphasis on common parasites of the country.
C) Provide a summary of life cycle, infection source, and storage of the mentioned factors.
D) Define the geographical distribution of common parasitic diseases in the country.
E) Name the main clinical symptoms of the mentioned diseases.
F) List the diagnosis methods for infections.
Educational Contents:
A) Theory course: one credit, presented in four sections.
The first section- protozoology, consisting of three sessions, as follows:
Generalities, protozoa including sarcodina, ciliates, flagellates and apicomplexan
The second section- helminthology, consisting of three sessions, as follows:
Generalities, trematodes, cestodes, intestinal, blood and tissue nematodes
The third section- arthropods, consisting of one session
The fourth section- mycology, containing one session
Educational Methods:
Theory course is carried out in the form of lectures using teaching aids.
Student responsibilities:
1. Regular and active participation.
2. Answering the questions raised during teaching.
3. Being prepared to oral and written tests at the end of each section.
4. Actively participate in discussions in theory classes.
5. Be able to detect samples and performed the assignments.
Assessment Methods for Academic Advancement
Theory course in the form of multiple-choice exams, and a few matching, blank and short essay questions.
